India won by 8 runs

India skipper MS Dhoni won the toss and decided to bat first against Australia in the fourth ODI of the seven-match series in Chandigarh on Monday . India made three changes called Sourav Ganguly for Gautam Gambhir and Murali Kartik replaced Ramesh Powar while RP Singh came in place of Sree Santh. Top Officials to be removed soon in Rizwanur case

Bowing to intense pressure from the public and the Left Front, the government in West Bengal, removed two police officers from their posts Friday and hinted at similar action against three senior IPS officers, including the Kolkata Police Commissioner, for their alleged involvement in the mysterious death of Rizwanur Rahaman. On Friday, the state government removed Assistant Commissioner Sukanta Chakraborty and Sub-Inspector Krishnendu Das of the anti-rowdy section of Kolkata Police from their posts for allegedly threatening Rizwanur to opt out of his marriage with Priyanka Todi, daughter of prominent industrialist Ashok Todi. State Home Secretary Prasad Ranjan Roy hinted that the government might also remove before Puja, two deputy commissioners of Kolkata Police Deputy Commissioner (headquarters) Gyanwant Singh and Deputy Commissioner (detective department) Ajay Kumar, whose names have cropped up in the case.

Even Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee, whose name had also figured in the case may not be spared and may just be removed after Puja. Veteran CPI-M leader Jyoti Basu said the government would take suitable action against the Police Commissioner only after Calcutta High Court heard the case. The government's action against the police officers follows intense pressure from senior CPI-M politicians, opposition leaders, intellectuals and the media over the past few days. The name of former Bengal Ranji Trophy cricketer Snehasish Ganguly, brother of cricket icon Sourav Ganguly, was dragged into the case after he admitted introducing the Todis to Police Commissioner Prasun Mukherjee.

OWest Bengal Ration shops face people's fury

In many places in West Bengal people are demonstrating against ration shops following allegations of corruption in the State Government department. Villagers have also set fire to godowns and police vehicles, saying they were starving. In Birbhum District, a man was killed and dozens injured after hundreds of people clashed with police. Situation has been brought under control. The district administration claims that the position has improved. Dozens of public distribution system (PDS) franchises have surrendered their permits out of fear and officials said they were investigating allegations of hoarding.

Poor villagers said that subsidized food grains and sugar meant for them were being sidetracked to regular markets and sold at huge premiums by corrupt PDS officials. At least 100 people, including dozens of policemen, were injured in clashes this week in West Bengal during protests against what residents say is widespread graft in the government's PDS. Earlier this year, an inquiry by the Central Government found that most of the rural poor in five states were not getting subsidized food supplies regularly. It found that only ten percent of the rural poor were getting regular supplies in dozens of remote villages of West Bengal.
